First full face transplant in the United States

Shooting face transplant surgery at Brigham and Women's hospital - photo by Shane Bronson

Recently, Brigham and Women’s Hospital successfully completed the first full face transplant in the United States. I was lucky enough to be one of the cameramen documenting the surgery for the Brigham. The procedure lasted just over 15 hours, with exhausted doctors who were all smiles at the end of the night. The recipient, Dallas Wiens, lost his facial features when the cherry picker he was working in collided with a live wire. As a crew, we were honored to be a part of such a important medical breakthrough, and thank the good people of the Brigham for being so accommodating.
